Where to find truffles? In Sarrion, Spanish Capital of Black Truffles (Tuber Melanosporum)


A fresh black truffle has an incomparable aroma that is much appreciated in «haute cuisine» gastronomy all over the world, where it is celebrated as the culinary “black diamond.” 
Black truffles are the hypogeous mushroom or fruiting body of the fungus, Tuber melanosporum Vitt.
Black truffles (Tuber Melanosporum) have traditionally been found in wild areas. But, lately, wild truffles have become scarce, so trees previously inoculated with the truffle mycelium are now being planted. Such plantations have been set up in most of the historical truffle areas, especially in Teruel (Aragón), in northeast Spain. The trees are carefully tended and pruned. Sarrion is the largest Spanish plantation area with more than 3.000 Ha cultivation.
This is a rugged, mountainous area with a harsh climate yet, surprisingly, just an hour’s drive away from the mild Valencia coast.
